Conductor Romeo Rimbu

Romeo Rimbu's education as an orchestra conductor included participation in an intensive conductor training course led by Master of Art Erich Bergel in Budapest (1996). In 1995, he received a scholarship from the Italian government, to study at the Accademia in Pescara. In addition, he has been a participant in conductor-training courses in Rome, (Accademia "O.Respighi"--1990) and in Oradea (1991-1993).

Romeo Rimbu is also a professional oboist and has played in concerts in Romania as well as in Germany, Italy, Spain, Luxemburg, Switzerland, France, Greece, and several other countries.

Mr. Rimbu has performed as a solo oboist in concerti for oboe and orchestra by Mozart (at the Musikverein in Vienna) , K.D. von Dittersdorf, and F. J. Haydn. These performances have been recorded on two LPs at "Electrecord" Recording Studio.

Mr. Rimbu's early education took place in Cluj, Romania at the "G. Dima" Music Academy (1978-1982), here specialized in oboe performance. He is a graduate of Cluj's High School of Music (1974-1978).

Romeo Rimbu is currently the permanent Conductor of the Philharmonic State Orchestras in Oradea (since 1990) and Ploiesti (since 1999). He is also Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the New Transylvania Orchestra (since 1999). He is a faculty member at the Music-Universitatea of Oradea (1998-2002) and at the Music Academy of Cluj-Napoca (since 2007).

Maestro Rimbu regularly guest conducts most of the orchestras in his native Romania, such as Orchestra de camera a Radiodifuziunii-Bucuresti, the State Symphony Orchestras of Arad, Bacau, Botosani, Brasov, Cluj, Constanta, Craiova, Iasi, Satu-Mare, Sibiu, Targoviste, Targu-Mures and Cluj Opera House. Moreover, he has toured internationally with his Orchestras and performed with them in Seoul's Art Center, Vienna's Musikverein, Munich's Herculesaal, Rome's Teatro Manzoni, Bilbao's Teatro Arriaga, Teatro dell Opera di Roma, to name just a few famous concert halls.

Romeo Rimbu has conducted over 600 concerts at an international level, including appearances in most European countries, the USA, Brazil, Japan and South Koreea. Some of the orchestras he has conducted in foreign countries include the Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra (China), L'Orchestre du Conservatoire de Rennes (France), the New York University's Contemporary Music Ensemble (U.S.A.), Symphonic Orchestra of Athens (Greece), the Korean Symphony Orchestra and the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra (South Korea) and National Philharmonic of Moldova.

Mr. Rimbu is also a recording artist with the Olympia label. He has recorded five CDs of the music of composers historically associated with the town of Oradea: M. Haydn, K. D. von Dittersdorf, W. Pichl. These CDs were recorded at the Olympia Recording Studio in London and earned the acclaim - and five stars - of the specialists in the music of that period. He also recorded for Inedita label 6 CD with Italian contemporary music by Luciano Simoni.

Mr. Rimbu has served on juries at various international competitions in Mazara del Vallo, Erice, Marsala (Italy), Ploiesti (Romania) and Tokyo (Japan).
